Today, on (24/4/2022) Cihan University - Duhok Department of General Education - Psychology Branch, serving educational institutions, especially schools, a workshop entitled (The Role of the Family in Education and Developing Students’ Capacities) was presented for (3) days and each day period is Two hours and a half (2:30) by Mrs.(Beshkozh Jaafar),a lecturer in Department of General Education, for students and families of Hoshke School students, in the presence of Mr. (Nihad Hassan), the school director, the assistant Mr. and a number of teache.
The workshop touched on the subject of the middle childhood and adolescence, since the Hoshka School is a basic school that includes this group of students. The seminar began to talk about the characteristics of the child in these two stages and their danger and importance in building the child’s personality, as the features of the child’s future are determined on the basis of the safety of the environment and education which he recieves at school and from the family. And the more the environment in which the child lives is safe and characterized by safety and reassurance, it will positively affect the child’s personality and his future.
Among the necessary instructions for parents at this stage are:
Balance in education and not excessively meet all their requirements except those necessary, as well as the constant praise of the child and maximizing his achievements, no matter how small, in order to enhance his self-confidence and avoid insulting the child in front of others, no matter how wrong he is.
Allocating time to play with the child and envolve in dialogue with him in adolescence stage is very necessary to strengthen the relationship between parents and children and to identify their problems and opinions.
The parents are the good model for the child to follow, because the apparent behavior is stronger and has a greater impact on the child than advice. It is important for parents not to burden the child with what he cannot bear and focus on his abilities and encourage him to develope them instead of comparing him to others. Continuous support for the child, his hobbies and dreams, but it is necessary to be careful in this situation, as supporting the child when he makes a mistake at school or at home has a very negative impact on the child himself.
Finally, every family must have a fixed system of behavioral rules that everyone can follow, without exception, in order to enable the child to train and use his time in the best way and to allocate the time needed for study, play and social activities.
