On November 19, the College of Pharmacy at Cihan University–Duhok held a workshop titled:
“AI for Pharmacists: What Every Future Pharmacist Should Know.”
The workshop aimed to introduce students and professionals to recent advancements in artificial intelligence and its growing impact on pharmaceutical practice and drug research. The workshop covered several advanced topics, most notably the role of AI in drug discovery, where speakers demonstrated how machine-learning algorithms are used to identify potential drug candidates, simulate biological interactions, and significantly reduce the time and cost required to develop new molecules compared to traditional methods. The role of AI in drug design, prediction of toxicity, and genomic data analysis was also highlighted, emphasizing how these tools enhance accuracy and efficiency in pharmaceutical research. In addition, the workshop discussed AI applications in pharmaceutical manufacturing, particularly in production lines for various pharmaceutical products, where AI contributes to quality control, process optimization, error reduction, and improved operational efficiency.
Another major theme focused on how community pharmacists can benefit from AI tools such as clinical decision-support systems, drug–drug interaction checkers, digital inventory management, and demand-forecasting models. Examples were provided to show how these technologies can enhance patient counseling, improve medication safety, and support evidence-based pharmaceutical care. The workshop concluded with recommendations encouraging students and pharmacists to strengthen their digital competencies and engage with AI technologies as an essential component of the profession’s future. Integrating modern technological tools into pharmaceutical practice is no longer optional but a necessity for delivering safer, more precise, and higher-quality healthcare.
