students from the College of Nursing,, conducted an educational visit to an Autism Center as part of their academic training

On 8 February 2026, students from the College of Nursing, under the supervision of Dr. Layla M. Salih and Mr. Salem S. Aziz, conducted an educational visit to an Autism Center as part of their academic training. The visit aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and practical understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

During the visit, the head of the center, Mr. Sakvan, provided a comprehensive orientation session for the students. He explained the nature of autism spectrum disorder, including its definition, causes, and prevalence, and discussed the common signs and symptoms, such as communication difficulties, social interaction challenges, and repetitive behaviors. In addition, he introduced the students to the behavioral therapy approaches used at the center, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and individualized care plans for children with autism.

The students were also informed about the training and rehabilitation programs implemented at the center, which focus on improving children’s cognitive, social, and behavioral skills. This session allowed the students to gain deeper insight into the role of healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, in supporting children with autism and their families.

At the conclusion of the visit, the students distributed gifts to the children at the center as a gesture of encouragement and social support. The visit was educationally valuable and contributed to the students’ clinical exposure and understanding of community-based care for children with special needs.
