A Sympsium entitled: Unraveling Anemia: Insights into Chronic Disease Anemia

on (May 27, 2025) in the presence of the head of departments and lecturer a symposium entitled (Unraveling Anemia: Insights into Chronic Disease Anemia), was presented by (Mr. Zeyad Abdullah Basheer) from the Pharmacy department , Where it has been explained about, Anemia related to chronic diseases (ACD) is a prevalent complication observed in patients suffering from persistent inflammatory and infectious conditions, malignancies, and other long-standing illnesses. This form of anemia is distinguished by disrupted iron homeostasis, decreased erythropoietin response, and inflammatory cytokine activity, which collectively impair red blood cell production. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of ACD is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. This review synthesizes current insights into the pathophysiology, diagnostic challenges, and potential therapeutic interventions aimed at improving outcomes in patients with chronic disease-associated anemia., At the end of the symposium In conclusion, anemia of chronic disease represents a complex interplay between inflammation, disrupted iron metabolism, and erythropoietin response. Accurate diagnosis relies on differentiating it from other types of anemia and understanding its unique pathophysiology. Managing ACD effectively requires controlling the underlying chronic condition and addressing specific hematological abnormalities. Advances in research continue to unveil novel therapeutic targets, offering hope for improved management and enhanced quality of life for affected patients.
