A Symposium entitled: Podocalyxin

on (May 28, 2025) in the presence of the head of departments and lecturer a symposium entitled (Podocalyxin), was presented by (Asst. Lect. Ava Hamdi Saeed) from the Medical Laboratory department , Where it has been explained about, Podocalyxin is a sialomucin glycoprotein expressed in kidney podocytes, endothelial cells, and some cancer cells. It maintains the filtration barrier in the glomerulus and prevents protein leakage. Altered expression is linked to kidney diseases and cancer progression. It is a promising biomarker for podocyte injury and tumor aggressiveness., At the end of the symposium Podocalyxin plays a critical role in podocyte structure and kidney filtration. Its loss or reduction can lead to proteinuria and glomerular diseases. In oncology, its overexpression is associated with increased tumor invasiveness. Monitoring podocalyxin levels may aid early diagnosis and prognosis in both renal and cancer patients.
