This paper examines the multifaceted drivers of this phenomenon, including inappropriate prescribing practices in human and animal medicine, patient behaviors, and the availability of over-the-counter antibiotics in some regions. We explore the consequences of this imprudent use, highlighting the increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant organisms, the erosion of treatment options for common infections, and the associated economic and public health burdens. At the end of the Symposium a set of questions and answers were raised on this subject In conclusion, The pervasive overuse and misuse of antibiotics represent a critical challenge to global health security. The continued injudicious application of these vital drugs is accelerating the development and spread of antibiotic resistance, threatening our ability to effectively treat both common and life-threatening infections. Addressing this complex issue necessitates a coordinated and multi-pronged approach involving healthcare professionals, patients, policymakers, and the agricultural sector.
