A symposium entitled: Hypothyroidism
Today on (Dec 11, 2022) in the presence of the head of departments and lecturer a symposium entitled (Dehydration), was presented by Assitant Lecturer (Miss. Layla Mohammed Salih) from the medical laboratory department, where it has been explained that
Hypothyroidism is where thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones. The common signs of an underactive thyroid are tiredness, weight gain and feeling depressed.
Most cases of hypothyroidism are caused either by the immune system attacking the thyroid gland and damaging it or by damage to the thyroid that occurs during some treatments for an overactive thyroid or thyroid cancer.
There’s no way of preventing an underactive thyroid. Fortunately, it can often be successfully treated by taking daily hormone tablets to replace the hormones that the thyroid is not making. Hypothyroidism is chronic disease that could effect every system in our body but is treatable
.At the end of the symposium, a set of questions and answers were raised on this subject.
