Prof. Dr. Ahmad Abdulkareem SHABAN) from the Department of English, Where it has been explained about Euphemism is a linguistic phenomenon that involves the substitution of mild or indirect words or phrases in place of harsh or sensitive ones. It is used to soften the impact of certain expressions on the listener or reader. Euphemisms can be found in various aspects of life, including politics, marketing, medicine, and everyday conversation. They serve to avoid offense, create a polite atmosphere, or convey sensitive information in a subtler manner. Euphemisms can be humorous, clever, or, at times, deceptive depending on their context and purpose. This linguistic tool allows individuals and societies to navigate delicate topics and maintain social harmony. Understanding euphemisms is crucial for effective communication and cultural sensitivity. In conclusion, euphemisms are a powerful tool to communicate effectively and respectfully. Their evolution and usage throughout time shape today's language, emphasizing the importance of mindful communication. . At the end of the symposium, a set of questions and answers were raised on this subject.
