A symposium entitled: Disorder of Phenylalanine Metabolism
Today on (Jan 23, 2023) in the presence of the head of departments and lecturer a symposium entitled (Disorder of Phenylalanine Metabolism ), was presented by (Dr.Ronak Ersan) from the medical laboratory department, where it has been explained about the Phenylketonuria, also called PKU, is a rare inherited disorder that causes an amino acid called phenylalanine to build up in the body. PKU is caused by a change in the phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) gene. This gene helps create the enzyme needed to break down phenylalanine. Phenylalanine hydroxylase is responsible for converting phenylalanine to another amino acid, tyrosine. Women with PKU can prevent harm to their developing baby by sticking to or returning to a low-phenylalanine diet before becoming pregnant. Nutritional supplements designed for people with PKU can ensure enough protein and nutrition during pregnancy., At the end of the symposium, a set of questions and answers were raised on this subject
