It is commonly caused by gallstones and chronic alcohol use, but other factors like certain medications, infections, and high triglyceride levels can also contribute. Clinically, it presents with severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and elevated pancreatic enzymes such as amylase and lipase. Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation, laboratory findings, and imaging such as ultrasound or CT scan. Treatment involves hospitalization, supportive care including intravenous fluids, pain management, and addressing the underlying cause. Early recognition and proper management are essential to prevent complications such as pancreatic necrosis, organ failure, and systemic infection, At the end of the symposium acute pancreatitis is a potentially serious medical condition that requires early recognition and prompt management. Understanding its causes, symptoms, and diagnostic criteria is essential for timely intervention. Most mild cases resolve with supportive care, while severe cases may lead to life-threatening complications if not properly treated. Prevention through lifestyle modification, such as limiting alcohol intake and managing gallstones or lipid levels, is also important. Continued research and awareness are vital to improve outcomes and reduce morbidity and mortality associated with this disease.
