on (Oct 18, 2025) in the presence of the head of departments and lecturer a symposium entitled
Acute appendicitis ), was presented by (Dr.latif mohammed shinawa ) from the Medical laboratory department , Where it has been explained about, Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical emergencies worldwide. It occurs due to inflammation of the vermiform appendix, often resulting from obstruction of the appendiceal lumen by fecaliths, lymphoid hyperplasia, or foreign bodies. The disease typically presents with abdominal pain, initially in the periumbilical area and later localizing to the right lower quadrant, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and low-grade fever. Diagnosis is based on clinical examination, laboratory findings (elevated white blood cell count), and imaging studies such as ultrasound or CT scan. Early surgical intervention, usually by appendectomy, is the standard treatment to prevent complications like perforation, abscess formation, and peritonitis. Prompt diagnosis and management are crucial to reduce morbidity and mortality, At the end of the symposium Acute appendicitis remains a major cause of acute abdominal pain requiring urgent surgical treatment. Accurate diagnosis through careful clinical assessment and appropriate imaging is essential. Early appendectomy significantly reduces the risk of complications and improves patient outcomes. Increasing awareness among healthcare professionals and the public about its early signs can further aid in timely management and better prognosis.
