On April 20th, second- and third-year nursing students, Cihan University, Duhok participated in a specialized workshop titled "Fracture Care Fundamentals: Nursing Management and Cast Application with Plaster of Paris (POP)." The session was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Layla M. Salih, Dean of the College of Nursing, with presentations delivered by Ms. Sara Kadhim and practical demonstrations by Mr. Karzan Mohammed, & in the presence of academic faculty members.
This workshop aimed to equip nursing students with essential theoretical knowledge and practical competencies in the management of patients with fractures. A particular focus was placed on the principles and application of Plaster of Paris (POP) for immobilization. The training provided a comprehensive approach, integrating didactic instruction with hands-on experience. Students gained the ability to identify various fracture types, conduct neurovascular assessments, correctly apply and monitor casts, and deliver appropriate patient education regarding cast maintenance.
