On February 7, 2026, the College of Nursing, in collaboration with the College of Pharmacy at Cihan University–Duhok, organized and delivered a scientific workshop entitled “Understanding Cancer: Awareness and Prevention.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Jiyan Ali Haji, Dr. Layla M. Salih, and Dr. Darya S. Hussein.

The presenters provided a comprehensive overview of cancer, highlighting the major etiological factors and risk determinants associated with its development. In addition, they discussed the clinical signs and symptoms of the most common types of cancer, emphasizing the importance of recognizing early warning indicators. The session also addressed strategies for early detection, including screening methods and diagnostic approaches, as well as an overview of the available treatment modalities.

The workshop concluded with evidence-based recommendations aimed at cancer prevention, alongside practical guidance on early detection and routine screening practices to reduce cancer-related morbidity and mortality.
