Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmad Abdulkareem Shaban Attends an Academic Workshop on English Language Program Reform
Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmad Abdulkareem Shaban, from the Department of English at Cihan University – Duhok, attended a regional academic workshop entitled “Standardizing and Reforming English Language Degree Programs in English Language Departments at the Universities of the Kurdistan Region,” organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research – Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The workshop was held on 14 December 2025 at the Catholic University in Erbil and brought together more than 100 academics and specialists from all universities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, in addition to senior professors from Iraqi universities outside the region, including the University of Mosul. The workshop addressed key academic themes related to reviewing experiences of English curriculum reform, revisiting curriculum frameworks for BA, MA, and PhD programs, identifying research gaps in English studies, and discussing approaches to enhancing research quality and raising standards in postgraduate thesis supervision. The event formed part of broader national and regional efforts to strengthen higher education quality, promote curriculum alignment, and support the development of coherent and internationally benchmarked English language programs.
