a workshop entitled “Building an Effective Surgical Team in the Operating Room.”

On February 23, 2026, the College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Department of Anesthesia, organized a workshop entitled “Building an Effective Surgical Team in the Operating Room.” The session was delivered by anesthesia students Yasmeen Sulayman, Vaman Nawzad, and Ayman Yasir, along with nursing students Aveen Jaafar and Ayob Idris. The workshop was conducted in the presence of the heads of both departments, faculty members, and students.

The workshop emphasized the critical importance of teamwork within the operating room setting. Presenters highlighted how effective collaboration enhances efficiency, ensures continuous patient monitoring, provides essential support to the anesthesiologist, and contributes directly to patient safety. The session underscored the significance of coordinated teamwork before, during, and after surgical procedures.

In addition, the students clearly defined and discussed the roles and responsibilities of key surgical team members, including the scrub nurse, circulating nurse, anesthesiology assistant, and anesthesiologist. The workshop concluded with a practical demonstration in which students collaboratively performed and practiced their respective roles, reinforcing the principles of effective interdisciplinary teamwork in surgical care.
